Instead of shame… honor. Instead of abandoned… treasured. Instead of rejected… accepted.
These are just a few of the promises of the God of Instead, the great Rescuer who gives us riches out of darkness.
Hello there. I’m Audrey and I’m a storyteller. The stories I tell are true and brave. They give voice to the ones silenced by shame, the ones who encountered the God of Instead and found life and freedom.
I hope you’ll consider me your story-telling tour guide, leading you through an art gallery hung with God’s great masterpieces, created in the lives of people around the world who have been given honor instead of shame, gladness instead of mourning, and hope instead of despair.
I have a degree in intercultural studies and theology and more than 25 years of experience living among different world views, but my greatest credential is that my picture hangs in His gallery, streaked with the contrasts of deepest darks and brightest lights.
Come walk with me a while, and listen as I tell you a story.
Covered Glory: The Face of Honor and Shame in the Muslim World is an outpouring of Audrey’s heart to introduce others to the God of Instead—He who brings gladness instead of mourning and hope instead of despair. Shame is not unique to developing countries, the plight of women behind veils, or young girls trafficked across borders; shame is lurking in hearts everywhere.

I’ve heard Audrey share at several events and I have been deeply moved each time. Her extensive study of honor and shame, her life experiences, and her gentle demeanor convey a genuine message of love and hope in Jesus. The truth and principles I’ve learned from Audrey have significantly impacted my daily life and ministry.
Allison W.CaliforniaAudrey helped demystify the shame / honor worldview to me....and I can't overstate how much this has impacted my friendships, and my ability to share the gospel.
I realized I was making some wrong assumptions about my Muslim friends. Now, instead of feeling overwhelmed, confused, or stressed about our cultural differences, I feel understanding. Because of this, the depth of our friendships has greatly increased...I ask better questions; I listen better; and I speak from a place of greater trust and love. This has opened so many doors to the gospel for me as well. Culture doesn't stand as a filter between me and my friend: I can see her. And this helps me reach out to her in a way that is more like Christ.
Jenny G.WisconsinAudrey moved through her talk from knowledge to action and was laced with the love of Christ through each stage. It's clear she wants women to move out of the shadow of shame and into the light of His honor, which inspires me to learn and do more!
