Believing God is Able
And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8, NET
If life is going okay for you right now, you might skim this verse in less than four seconds (I tested it.) If life is crushing, you might not be able to get through it at all (admittedly, I tested that one, too.)
2 Corinthians 9:8 is a whopping promise.
All grace.
Enough of everything.
In every way.
At all times.
In every good work.
God’s promises can make us skip and sing with joy when all is well. But when we’re immobilized and overwhelmed by life’s most crushing trials, the same promises can make us feel worse because they seem too good, too big, to be true.
Let’s be honest.
Sometimes it hurts so much, the pressure is so great, that we need help to believe.
Help comes in many forms. Sometimes God Himself overwhelms us with His loving presence. It can happen in nature, as we walk along a bumpy trail that resembles our present life path. Help can come from a verse that flashes on your phone on a day you haven’t yet had time to open the Bible yourself. Help can happen in a conversation with a friend we haven’t talked to in years but loves Jesus and loves us. Help can come in the form of a message from someone saying you’ve been on my mind and I’m praying. It can come from a series of worship songs that seem to be a customized playlist God created just for your circumstances today. On an exceptional day, it can even come through a very good piece of rich and moist chocolate cake.
God is good, and His goodness is everywhere, even in the times we feel smothered by the bad. He knows that sometimes we need help believing He is able.
Which one are you today—are you skipping or stuck? We all skip or get stuck sometimes.
Skippers, slow down a beat, and ask God to show you someone who’s stuck. You might be the help they need to believe.
If you’re stuck, you can be sure help is on its way even when you don’t have the strength or time to call a friend. Hang on!
Yes, God is able. Even to help us #believe He is able. #faith Share on XLord, thank You for being able to help me in every way. Amen.
