The God Who Fulfills Promises With His Own Hand
O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart…You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day. Now therefore, O Lord, keep… what you have promised to him saying, “You shall not lack…” (2 Chronicles 6:14-16).
I am thinking deeply these days about how my Father gives us a job to do, then promises He will help us do it, then with His own hand completes it.
Covered Glory, releasing in just two days on August 20, is such a promise kept. Like Solomon after the completion of the temple, I have set my heart toward worship and dedication this week.
Surely there is no god like our God, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to His servants and fulfilling with His own hand what He has promised. #coveredglory #worship Share on XSometimes the waiting time between when the Promise Word is given and when it is fulfilled is longer than expected or filled with pain. But our God will complete it with His own hand.
This is my offering today: my gratitude to the One who gives us work and then helps us do it with His own hand.
King David determined in his heart to build a house for the Lord. The idea was his and he was filled with passion to see it through. But the Lord’s plan was massive in scope, far beyond David’s imagination. He declared to David that it would not be him, but his son Solomon who would finally build the house.
David was not disappointed, bitter, or jealous as some might expect. Within his honor-shame worldview, this command of God was a guarantee of honor.
By extending the work to Solomon, God was promising King David honor and security in the generations to come. David had the idea; his son would complete it. Through both generations together the Lord would establish His house and His kingdom forever (1 Chronicles 17:14).
The words of Solomon in 2 Chronicles 6:14-16 were recorded just after he had completed the building of the temple as God promised. What we know and Solomon did not, however, is that the magnificent temple he built was a picture of a far more magnificent promise to be fulfilled in the future. One day Jesus the Messiah, of the lineage of David and Solomon, would come to fulfill the kingdom of God on earth.
The greatest promise God ever fulfilled with His own hand was salvation for all humanity through #Jesus the Messiah. #coveredglory #insteadofshamehonor Share on XWhat if the words our Father speaks to us, the jobs He gives us to do, are simply pictures of something far more magnificent in the generations to come? What if our obedience, the work He completes with His own hand through us, has significance beyond us?
You and I do not really need to know the future. What we do need to understand is that God’s plans are massive in scope, far beyond the present struggle we face.
Let us do the work at hand! When it is fulfilled, we will bow our knees and worship the One who keeps His promises.
He will make sure we do not lack (2 Chronicles 6:16).
Join me in worship this week. To celebrate the God who with His own hand has made Covered Glory a reality, I’ve created a playlist from your favorites and mine. Listen here. If you have a song to add, comment below and I’ll include it! It is so good to give thanks to the Lord.
O Lord, there is no one like You who speaks a word and with Your own hand fulfills it. Thank you! Be glorified in me as I do the work You have given. Amen.
